We welcome you to this landmark conference, Restoring Ecosystems to Reverse Global Warming and hope the information here will assist you with the practical arrangements of your trip.  If you have any further questions, please contact us at climate2014@bio4climate.org.

The conference is taking place in Cohen Auditorium, 40 Talbot Avenue, on the Tufts University Medford/Somerville Campus.  An  Interactive campus mapGeneral directions to campus, and Parking information, along with printable campus maps, are available here.

A high-resolution map with conference locations marked is available here.

Accommodations

Tufts listing of local hotels is here (select Medford/Somerville option under Hotels from the menu on the left side of the page).  However, you may find considerably lower prices with travel services such as Expedia.com‘s “Best Deals”  (this is an example, not an endorsement).  If you’re using public transportation, be sure that it’s readily available from your location to Tufts (a bus and a subway is a reasonable travel combination).

For out-of-town students, we may be able to match you with an on-campus host at little or no cost.  Please contact us at  climate2014@bio4climate.org.

Dining

We will provide a light buffet on Friday evening on a first-come first-served basis, with coffee, tea and fruit available throughout the weekend. Tufts catering services will source organic and/or local food as much as possible.

There will be an hour-and-a-half for lunch on Saturday and Sunday.  Unfortunately there is limited dining availability on the Tufts Campus this weekend, but you are welcome to bring a lunch and eat in Alumnae Lounge,   In addition, there is enough time to go to a local restaurant by shuttle or on foot.  Davis Square has dozens of restaurants, some of our favorites are Diesel Café, Johnny D’s, Orleans, Flatbread, Chipotle (270-276 Elm St.), Dave’s Fresh Pasta and Redbones BBQ.  Vegetarian and vegan and organic options available, check menus.  There are also some restaurants on Boston Avenue (the Danish Pastry House is a favorite) and in Powder House Square (especially Tu y Yo), each is a 10-20 minute walk from Cohen Auditorium.

For dinner, Greater Boston is your oyster! (Literally as well as figuratively . . . )

Local Travel

Getting to campus.  There is a Tufts shuttle service that goes from the nearest subway (“T”) stop, Davis Square on the Red Line.  The shuttle runs on Friday during the conference, and starts running at 10 a.m. on weekends every half hour until late at night (Saturday, Sunday). Public buses are available, MBTA Buses Routes 80, 94 and 96.  Cohen Auditorium is  also within walking distance from the Davis Square T stop, around 20 minutes .

Getting around the Boston areaPublic transportation in the Metro Boston area is generally very good during the hours of the conference.  While hotels near Tufts are convenient, travel from places such as downtown Boston or Cambridge or somewhat less expensive areas will generally take an hour or less, depending on where you are staying.

Driving is also an option, and traffic should be light except for the start of the opening session on Friday, which is during rush hour.  If you’re not familiar with the area finding your way around can be confusing, sometimes one-way streets seem to go in circles (they actually don’t, except for the rotaries!) – so a GPS will be helpful.

Directions and Parking

Directions to Tufts are here.  On-campus parking will available free to conference attendees this weekend on the lot off of College Avenue, adjacent to the Granoff Music Center (see map here).  Parking is also available at the Boston Avenue Garage for $8.00/day, details are here.
