Native Plant Community Gardens
We are members of Native Plant Community Gardens, a volunteer environmental group with an exciting initiative to plant the first pollinator garden in Danehy Park in Cambridge, MA this September! This is a joint project with Biodiversity for a Livable Climate and the City of Cambridge. We have tremendous support from Cambridge through its Department of Public Works and its supervising landscape architect.
We are starting the project with a celebratory Biodiversity Day Festival on May 4th in Danehy Park, which will be free and open to the public. This family-friendly event from 11am to 3pm will be informational and fun! We’ll be offering birding tours, interactive games and art-making for kids, and live music performances. The event will also inform visitors of the vital role native plants play in ecosystem restoration. Native plants boost biodiversity by reestablishing the connection with soil organisms like fungi to increase soil fertility, attract native pollinators, retain rainwater and remove more carbon from the atmosphere.
We’re looking for ongoing funding that will support our pollinator gardens project, including the costs of our kick-off celebration on May 4th. All tax-deductible donations, large or small, are enthusiastically appreciated! They will help us purchase plants, compost, and garden supplies for our September planting.
Thank you so much!
