Australia’s 2026–27 environmental water plan for the Murray–Darling Basin prioritizes river connectivity, drought refuges, wetlands, native fish, waterbirds and vegetation. This is a particularly positive move because it treats water as ecosystem infrastructure, rather than simply a resource for human consumption.
